Marlene E. Simpson, 67, of Newton died Thursday, July 29, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Newton with the Rev. Jeff Arp officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family will be available from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in her name or to Hospice of Jasper County.
The daughter of Paul and Lily (Lindsey) Koppin, she was born Sept. 15, 1936, in Monroe. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1955. On Feb. 22, 1957, she married Leonard Keith Simpson in Newton. She was a homemaker and worked in the Newton Senior High School lunchroom for several years. Mrs. Simpson was a member of First Assembly of God Church, taught Sunday school for more than 40 years and was active in women's ministries home Bible study groups. She also clerked at auctions for Shields Auction Service. She was a lifetime resident Jasper County, residing in Monroe and Newton.
Survivors include her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Susannne Simpson of Donalsonville, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorinda and Joe Diehm of Newton; four grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Duane and Betty Koppin and Dave and Mary Koppin, all of Newton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Glory Gordon of Newton and Karen and Ron Sloan of Kansas City, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
