Gary Pierson, 64, of Newton died Saturday, Aug. 14, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. (please note corrected time) at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Glen W. Oswalt officiating.

Friends may call from noon until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to St. Nick's Manhattan Christmas Club and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Rowena Champ and Leroy Pierson, he was born Feb. 23, 1940, in Ottumwa. He worked for the Maytag Company for 26 years and retired in May 1992. He was a member of Local UAW 997 and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Shannon Pierson of Newton; a daughter, Mindy Becker of Newton; nine grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Donny and Joann Pierson of Ottumwa; and a sister and brother-in-law, Maria "Skip" and Kermit Smith of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lisa Bucklin. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Tuesday, August 17, 2004
