DECEMBER 31, 1931 ~ MARCH 4, 2019 (AGE 87)Mary Lou’s memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 11th at the St. Luke United Methodist Church, 501 E. 19th St. N. in Newton.
The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service with a lunch at the church.
Inurnment will be at a later date at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Mary Lou’s name. A memorial fund is being established for her favorite charities (Please make checks payable to Jack Kaloupek). Memorials may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory or at the church on the morning of the service. If mailing the memorial to the funeral home, please add, Attn: Kaloupek Family on the envelope.
Mary Lou, the daughter of Charles and Pearl Ellen Kaloupek was born December 31, 1931 in Elberon, Iowa. The family moved to Toledo, Iowa in 1935 and she attended Toledo schools, graduating from Toledo High School with the class of 1949.
During her high school years, she participated in band and cheerleading, and worked part time at the Rexall Drug Store in Toledo. She also attended the United Methodist Church in Toledo during her school years.After graduation, Mary Lou worked for the Iowa Electric Light and Power Company in Toledo for several years. In 1963, she moved to Newton, Iowa where she was employed in the offices of The Maytag Company. She retired from The Maytag Company after 29 years of service. During those years, her interests were the Newton Cardinal “Red Pride” football teams, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the various life stages of her many nephews and nieces.
Mary Lou was a breast cancer survivor having surgery at Skiff Memorial Hospital. Following the successful surgery, she began counseling and encouraging others who had gone through cancer during this time and was further involved in the Skiff Hospital Breast Cancer Support Group.
Mary Lou passed away March 4, 2019 at her home in Newton. She was 87. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, Leland Kaloupek, Charles Kaloupek, Robert Kaloupek and Douglas Kaloupek, and one sister, Phyllis Willer.
Mary Lou is survived by her brother, Jack, and his wife, Mary Louise Kaloupek of Kerrville, TX, two sisters’ in law, Mary Faye Kaloupek, Toledo, Marrina Kaloupek, Grinnell and one brother-in-law, Charles Willer, of Marshalltown, many nieces and nephews and other extended family members. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 04 Mar 2019.
