Dale L. Mohler, 79, of Newton died Sunday, Aug. 1, at the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Education Center of Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton with Dan Mohler, Mr. Mohler's grandson, and Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service.

The son of George and Beulah (Ritchie) Mohler, he was born Aug. 11, 1924, in Percy. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Nov. 7, 1942, he married Evelyn M. Harger in Unionville, Mo. He owned and operated Gasoline Alley in Newton and also worked at Coast to Coast for 12 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 111 and enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing home repairs. He lived in Knoxville prior to moving to Newton in 1946.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Diane Mohler of Houston, Texas; two daughters-in-law, Barbara Mohler of Newton and Rose and Lonnie Matticks of Urbandale; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Jan Mohler of Knoxville; three sisters, Marcella Smith of Prairie City, Patty Douglas of Knoxville and Sandy DeVore of Albia; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. ~ Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, Tuesday, August 3. 2004
