BAXTER -- Adelbert E. "Delbert" Kanne, 66, of rural Baxter died Monday, July 5, at his home in rural Baxter.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter with the Rev. Bill Gardner officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Baxter. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Baxter Ambulance and may be left at the funeral home or at the church the morning of the service.

The son of Clarence R. and Martha O. (Demann) Kanne, he was born Oct. 9, 1937, in Newton. He attended Country School Malaka No. 4 and graduated from Baxter High School in 1957.

On July 4, 1982, he married Kelli Cassidy in Las Vegas. He later married Rita Hannagan on Sept. 18, 2002, in Las Vegas.

Mr. Kanne worked for the Maytag Company for 30 years and retired in 1988. He also farmed and retired from farming in 1992. He attended Bethany United Church of Christ. He was a lifelong resident of Baxter.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Daryl and Stephanie Kanne of Des Moines and Alan Kanne of Olathe, Kan.; three step-sons and daughters-in-law, Albert and Sheree Esqueda of Kellogg, Andrew and Becky Esqueda of Baxter and Arleigh and Sara Esqueda of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Kiran Annam of Reno, Nev.; one step-daughter and son-in-law, Kursha and Matt Bennet of Baxter; six grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Reuben C. and Linda Kanne of Marshalltown; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Anna Meta Pejchl of Lakewood, Calif., and Clarice P. and Jerald Thompson of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and one grandchild. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Wednesday, July 7, 2004
