Leitha M. Jenkins, 71, of Newton died Tuesday, July 13, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center officiating. Burial will be at Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton.

Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County or to the donor's choice and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Earl Kenneth and Josephine (Baze) Gragg, she was born March 7, 1933, in Albia. On April 2, 1954, she married John W. "Bill" Jenkins in Unionville, Mo. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ladies of the Moose and a past member of the Jasper County Women's Bowling Association. She has been a resident of Newton since 1945.

Survivors include her husband; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Janice, Dan and Deena and Doug and Denise Jenkins, all of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bryan Lamb of Newton; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marilyn Gragg of Mitchellville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and John Doyel and Judy and Darrell Montgomery, all of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson; a brother, Lee Roy Gragg; two sisters, Mary Margaret Gragg in infancy and Shirley Sager; and a niece and a nephew. ~ Newton (IA)Daily News, Thursday, July 15, 2004
