Helen V. (Rail) Ingalls, 82, of Newton, formerly of Birmingham and Fairfield, died Friday, Aug. 13, at Careage of Newton.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to a Cemetery Monument fund.

The daughter of Chad and Katherine (Ditrick) O'Brink, she was born Dec. 25, 1921, in Mason City. She was adopted in 1927 by John and Betty (Kisling) Rail of Stockport. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton and worked as a store manager at Hillcrest Dormitory at the University of Iowa until her retirement in 1983.

Survivors include four daughters, Linda K. Smothers of Newton, Billie R. Deck of New London, Janet L. Ferch of Wichita, Kan., and Kimberly D.M. Reese of St. Charles, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Wilma Clausen; and two brothers, Ed Newman and Gayle O'Brink.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Ingalls; infant son, Wesley Earl Ingalls; and three brothers, Robert Rail, Leroy Bonsack and John Kozack. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Tuesday, August 17, 2004
