Brunner Rites Held Sunday In Newton
Funeral services for John P. Brunner, 84, who died at his home Thursday, were conducted at the First Christian church Sunday afternoon with Dr. E. P. Gabriel in charge, assisted by the Rev. Frasier Thomason of Eldora, Ia. Interment was in the Woodland cemetery.
Music was provided by Howard McConeghey who sang, “Crossing The Bar,” and “Good Night and Good Morning” accompanied by Mrs. Lulu Taylor.
Floral pieces were in charge of Mrs. G. T. Holdsworth and Mrs. John Nelson.
Those serving as pall bearers were Adam Brunner, Fred Kling, Lawrence Kling, Lester Kling, Harry Haines, and Everett Richards.
Mr. Brunner was born in a log house, June 24, 1857, at Vandalia, Ia., the son of Jacob and Anna Margaretta Brunner.
He was united in marriage to Lean Deere June 21, 1878, and to this union two children were born, M. S. Brunner, and Margaret (Brunner) Kling. Mrs. Brunner died in 1906.
He was united in marriage Nov. 12, 1909, to Cora J. Sparks at Oklahoma City, Okla.
He was a member of the Masonic, and Knights of Pythias lodges, of the First Christian church of Newton and of the Three-Quarter Century club.
Surviving relatives are his wife, and two children, M. S. Brunner and Margaret B. Kling, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
