Baker Funeral Services Held
Funeral services for Benjamin Franklin Baker of Mingo, who died Wednesday at midnight at his home, were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Union Chapel near Ira.
Rev. O. G. Orcutt, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church of Colfax, delivered the funeral sermon and burial was in the family lot in the cemetery near the church.
Pallbearers were W. J. Byal, C. W. Tramel, W. I. Price, W. H. Baker, George Whitehead and F. J. Rippey.
Music was furnished by a male quartet of Mingo, including Floyd Hulse, J. S. Brown, Roy Westfall, and B. H. Sandy. The male quartet was accompanied on the organ by Mrs. W. F. Hayes. Those who took charge of the flowers included Mrs. A. A. Southern, Mrs. Lillian Tramel, Mrs. F. J. Rippey and Mrs. George Whitehead.
Born in Iowa
Benjamin Franklin Baker, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Baker, was born in a log cabin at Pleasant Prairie, Ia., Nov. 1, 1846. He died at his home near Ira Sept. 8 at the age of 80 years.
Mr. Baker with his brother, George Baker, moved to Jasper county in 1869 and settled on the farm which was occupied by him at the date of his death.
Married in 1873
He was united in marriage to Jane Elizabeth Crawford, Sept. 2, 1873 and to this union two children were born, Walter C. who died March 31, 1900; Coral H. now Mrs. E. E. Southern of Mingo, who survives. His wife preceded him in death march 20, 1896.
Mr. Baker is survived by his daughter Mrs. E. E. Southern of Mingo, three grandchildren, Mrs. Lois Kimberley of Collins, Thelma and Orlo Southern of Mingo, and two sisters, Mrs. T. W. Mallicoat of Newton, and ___ Marietta Gatton of Seattle, Wash. Two brothers, George and ___ Baker, preceded him in death. He also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.
Relatives attending the funeral services from Davenport, Muscatine, Pleasant Prairie, Iowa Falls, Seattle, Wash., Prairie City and Newton.
