Joseph L. Ver Woert
April 26, 1947 ~ June 23, 2013 (age 66)

Joseph Lee Ver Woert, the youngest of four children, was born on April 26, 1947, to Andrew and Ruth (Castorf) Ver Woert at the family home near Sully, Iowa. He received his early education in the Sully area schools and attended Lynnville-Sully High School.

While working at Vermeer Manufacturing he met Carol Slings. On October 31, 1968, they were married in the chapel of the First Reformed Church in Pella.

Joe worked at Vermeer's for five years then moved to Sully in 1971 to farm with his brother, Bob, after their father passed away. In addition to farming, he also worked nine years with the City of Pella Parks and Recreation. He was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church where he was also baptized and made profession of faith.

Joe enjoyed hunting, antique collecting, going to car shows with his 1963 Impala, garage sales and flea markets, traveling with family, camping at the state fair, and playing his guitar around the campfire. He loved helping family and friends.

Joe passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines at the age of sixty-six. Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Carol, of Sully; his son and his wife, Ricky Lee and Monica Ver Woert and their two children, Blake and Amelia of McKinney, Texas; his mother, Ruth Ver Woert of Pella; and his siblings: Robert (Pat) Ver Woert of Sully, Ruthanne Van Wyk of Pella, and Linda (Gerrit) Verhey of Pella.

He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew, and brother-in-law, Marvin Van Wyk.
