Newton Man’s Father Dies
Funeral Services this Afternoon for S. J. Woodin of Rock Island
S. J. Woodin, 85, of Rock Island, died at his home Thursday morning. He was the father of Charles K. Woodin of Newton.
Funeral services were to be held this afternoon at the First Baptist church in Rock Island and interment will be in Chippiannock cemetery.
Mr. Woodin was widely known in the tri-cities and Rock Island county and had a large circle of friends. He was a former veteran employee of the Rock Island Plow Co. He had served as assistant supervisor of Rock Island township and thus a member of the county board for 13 years, being first elected in 1924.
He was foreman of the wood shop of the B. D. Buford Co., which later became the Rock Island Plow Co., from 1877 until retiring in 1922.
Surviving are three sons, Charles K. of Newton and Norman C. and William J., both of Rock Island; a daughter, Mrs. Josie Woodin Hardin of Peoria, Ill., and seven grandchildren. Thmoas and Robert Woodin of Newton and Richard Sheldon and William Hardin, all of Peoria, and Jerry Woodin and Mrs. Mary Woodin Krier, both of Rock Island.
