Son Of One Of First White Settlers Dies
Oscar Tool, 77, Native of Tool’s Chapel, Dies at Mansfield, Mo.
TOOL’S CHAPEL – Oscar Tool, 77, son of James A. Tool, one of the first white settlers in Jasper county, died Sunday morning, March 21, at Mansfield, Mo., according to word received by relatives. He had been in failing health for the last two years.
Mr. Tool, the son of James A. and Sarah Tool, was born and raised on a farm four miles east of Monroe. The father donated the ground for the Tool’s Chapel Methodist Episcopal church and it was named in his honor.
Mr. Tool was married to Liddy Sheeler of this community and their early married life was spent on a farm near what is known as Franklin Station.
In 1891, they sold the farm and moved to Kansas and later to the present home at Mansfield, Mo.
Surviving relatives include his wife; six children, Willard in Kansas, Harry in Minnesota, Rosie in California, Ida in Iowa City, and Nellie and Cora of Mansfield, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Oldham and Flora Tool of Monroe and Mrs. G. F. Marshall of Tool’s Chapel, and two brothers, Harry Tool of Atkin, Minn., and John Tool of Reasnor.
Funeral services were to be held at Mansfield today. Those attending from Jasper county were Flora Tool and Grace Oldham of Monroe and John Tool and Mrs. and Mrs. George Tool of Reasnor.
