Mrs. Stanley, 96, Dies Wednesday
Sugar Creek Resident Came to Iowa 82 Years Ago
SUGAR CREEK – Mrs. Belinda Stanley, 96-year old Jasper county resident, died Wednesday morning at the home of her son, Luther, after a brief illness of pneumonia.
Belinda Williams, daughter of John and Anna Williams, was born, Oct. 18, 1840, at Orange county, Indiana.
With her parents, who rode in a covered wagon, she came to Iowa in 1855.
Survivors include the son, Luther, and two brothers, A. J. Williams of Oskaloosa and Thomas Williams of Earlham.
Funeral services will be held at Sugar Creek Friday at 11 a.m. with Mrs. Anna Alberay Stanton in charge.

SUGAR CREEK – Belinda Williams, daughter of John and Anna Williams was born October 18, 1840 in Orange County, Indiana and died March 31, at the advanced age of 96 years, 5 months and 13 days.
She was the oldest child of a family of thirteen children. She was a birthright member of the Friends church and a charter member of Sugar Grove church.
In 1855 her parents and family, in company with some neighbors, came to Iowa in a covered wagon drawn by oxen. They arrived at Salem, Iowa in the autumn. Because of sickness they remained there until the following spring when they came on to a farm near Lynnville.
As soon as possible they erected a log house in the Black Oak neighborhood near the home where she and her husband lived for many years.
She was united in marriage to David Stanley April 10, 1862, who preceded her in death 12 years ago.
Two children were born in this union, Luther, with whom she had made her home for several years, and Anna, who died fifteen years ago. She is survived by one son, Luther, six grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, also two brothers J. A. Williams of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and T. E. Williams of Earlham, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at Sugar Creek church Friday morning at 11:00 o’clock with a former pastor, Mrs. Anna Alberry of Scranton in charge, assisted by Rev. Thomas Brown.
Music was furnished by a male quartet composed of Cleon Russell, Rayford Ratcliff, Wallace Williams and Delbert Rayl who sang, “Jesus Savior Pilot Me,” and “Shadows” with Mrs. Vera Williams at the piano.
Pallbearers were: Orville Stanley, Myrlin Stanley, Robert Ashby, Will Burnham, Ralph Stanley and Lawrence Stanley.
Those attending from a distance were T. E. Williams and Elsie of Earlham; Kenneth Williams of Des Moines; A. J. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Williams, Willis and Helen Hawk, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Heald and two children, all of Oskaloosa; Mr. and Mrs. Charley Williams of Eddyville; Wilford Williams of Beacon; Ed Hill and Maxine and Leslie Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Myrlin Stanley, Marjorie, Lawrence and Alice of Kellogg; Mr. and Mrs. Orville Stanley and Charles, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Stanley and Glen Peters of Grinnell.
Interment was in the Sugar Creek cemetery.
