ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Joan Norlene Honnold, 76, of Roseburg, Ore., formerly of Prairie City, died Sunday, Aug. 8, at Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg, Ore.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Prairie City with the Rev. John Poe officiating. Burial will follow at Waveland Cemetery. Memorials will be accepted to the Prairie City United Methodist Church Building Fund.

The daughter of Rex and Lora (Jennings), she was born July 2, 1928, in Jasper County. She attended grade schools in rural Jasper County and graduated from Prairie City High School in 1946. She was a 1950 graduate from Simpson College in Indianola. She taught school in several small towns in Iowa before moving to Myrtle Creek, Ore., in 1957, where she taught first grade in the Myrtle Creek School until her retirement.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, William and Sally Honnold, and a half-sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and John Stein of Greenwich, Conn., as well as seven nieces and nephews and their spouses. ~ Newton (IA) Daily News, Monday, August 16, 2004
