James S. Quinn Dies Thursday
Newton Man, 87, Dies at Home of Daughter, Mrs. Charles Nation
James S. Quinn, 87, longtime resident of Jasper county, died Thursday at 5:15 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Nation, 1014 West Third Street South. Mr. Quinn had been an invalid for 37 years and had been bedfast nearly two years.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from the Morgan funeral home by the Rev. W. B. Wilson, Congregational pastor at Newburg, who is a longtime friend of the family. Interment will be in Our Silent City at Kellogg.
Born in 1849
Mr. Quinn, son of Mr. and Mrs. James C. C. Quinn, was born April 21, 1849, near Long Grove, Scott county, Ia., and grew to manhood there.
He was united in marriage to Mattie Fox at Davenport Feb. 24, 1875, and the following March they came to Jasper county to live. They settled on a farm near the present site of Killduff March 17, 1875, seven years before the town was founded.
Four Children
Four children were born to this union, two of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Quinn’s death occurred May 19, 1915.
For the last 12 years, Mr. Nation had been cared for in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nation.
Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Nation of Newton; a son, Leonard Quinn of south of Kellogg, and four grandchildren, Mrs. Esther Irene Morrison of Portland, Ore., and Ruth Lorraine, Eleanor Mae and Lloyd Leonard Quinn, all of near Kellogg.

Conduct Rites for J. S. Quinn
Services Held in Newton, Burial in Our Silent City at Kellogg
Funeral services for J. S. Quinn, 87, long-time resident of Jasper county, were conducted at the Morgan funeral home Saturday at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. H. LeRoy Kinser of the First Christian church.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Dale Lyons and Beulah M____ who sang, “In the Garden”, “It is Well With My Soul.” T___ accompanied by Mrs. Roy ___.
Interment was in Our Silent City cemetery at Kellogg with the following serving as pallbearers: R. J. Gifford, Frank Gifford, ___ O’Brien, Truelove Nyhouse, ___ Bullington and Bruce Sa__
Mr. Quinn died Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Nation. He had been an invalid for 37 years.
He was born April 21, 1849 near Long Grove, Scott county, Ia. and came to Jasper county with his bride, Mattie Fox Quinn in March 1875, and located near the present site of Killduff.
He was preceded in death by his wife May 19, 1915, and two children, who died in infancy.
Surviving relatives include his daughter, Mrs. Nation; a son, Leonard Quinn of south of Kellogg and four grandchildren.
