Mrs. Parmley, former Newton Resident, Dies
Mrs. Joe E. Parmley of Canby, Ore., former Newton resident, died late Wednesday of pneumonia, following a week’s illness. Funeral services and burial are to be held there.
Mrs. Parmley, who was formerly Elsie Skow, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Skow, left Newton about seven years ago.
Local relatives include two sisters, Helena Skow and Mrs. Charles Shampine, and a brother, Chris W. Skow.

Mrs. Joe E. Parmley died Wednesday evening, Jan. 6, at the Hutchinson hospital, where she had been taken from her home at Canby, Ore., on Saturday when stricken with pneumonia. She had recovered from the attack, but her heart proved too weak to withstand the strain.
She was removed to the Canby Funeral home, where services were held Saturday, Jan. 9, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. E. Terry of the Canby Methodist church officiating. Interment was in the Zion cemetery near Canby.
Born in Iowa
Elsie Catherine Parmley, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Skow, was born on a farm just north of the Newton Union Cemetery Nov. 29, 1881. Most of her life before going to Oregon seven years ago was spent on this farm, then owned by her parents. She and her husband had taken up residence there when the Skow family moved to their new home in Newton.
She received her early education at the Armstrong school, later taking a business course in the Newton Normal College. For a short time, she was employed in her father’s office.
When about 12 years of age, she was confirmed in the Lutheran church.
Marriage
On March 11, 1902, she was united in marriage to Joe E. Parmley, two children were born, a son, who died when three weeks old, and a daughter, Hazel Marie, who lives in Oregon.
Mrs. Parmley was also preceded in death by a younger brother, a sister, and her parents.
Surviving relatives include her husband and daughter, a brother, Chris W. Skow; two sisters, Helena Skow and Mrs. Bertha Shampine, and an aunt, Mrs. Minnie Nelson.
