Gasoline Drink Fatal to Child
David Laskewitz, 16-Month Old Son of August Laskewitz, Dies
David Robert Laskewitz, 16-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. August Laskewitz of southeast of Newton died about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Skiff Memorial hospital as the result of drinking gasoline.
The child unscrewed the cap off a five-gallon can of high-test gasoline and sucked the liquid out.
The accident occurred about 11:30 o’clock, while Mrs. Laskewitz was preparing the noon meal.
When the accident was discovered, the baby was rushed to the Skiff hospital from the home, 10 miles southeast of here.
Following a prayer service Thursday at 1:15 p.m. at the Toland funeral home, final funeral rites will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Mount Zion church southeast of Newton, with Rev. R. V. Pike of Killduff in charge. Interment will be in the Mount Zion cemetery.
The baby was born at Newton April 21, 1936, the mother being the former Alta Turner.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Judith Ann, 4 ˝ years; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. (Bert) Turner of Newton, and the parental grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Laskewitz, also of Newton.

Funeral Services Conducted For Laskewitz Baby
Funeral services for David Robert Laskewitz, 16-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. August Laskewitz of southeast of Newton, were conducted today at 2:00 p.m. from the Mount Zion church by Rev. R. V. Pike of Killduff.
Music was furnished by Mr. Fred Welle and Mrs. Theodore Emmack, who sang, “Precious Jewels” and “Sometime, Somewhere.” Mrs. Isaac Welle was the accompanist.
Preceding the church rites, a prayer service was held at 1:15 p.m. at the Toland funeral home in Newton.
Interment was in the Mount Zion cemetery, with the following serving as pall bearers: Charles Castorf, M. J. Thorp, Robert Turner and Berle Starr. Mrs. Grover McMahon arranged the flowers.
The child died Tuesday at the Skiff Memorial hospital as the result of drinking gasoline.
Surviving relatives are his parents; a sister, Judith Ann, 4 ˝ years; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. (Bert) Turner of Newton, and the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Laskewitz, also of Newton.
