Elston F. King Dies Thursday
Former Grinnell College Star Succumbs to Long Illness
GRINNELL – Elston F. King, long time Webster City, Ia., banker, died at his home in Grinnell at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, following a long illness.
Mr. King was born in Brantford, Ontario, in 1873, and grew up in Panora, Ia. where he moved with the family at the age of seven. Mr. King graduated from Grinnell College in the class of 1894.
At Grinnell Mr. King was a member of one of the pioneer Grinnell football teams, and was widely known in intercollegiate baseball. After a short time spent ranching in Utah. Mr. King settled in Webster City where he spent most of his business life. Mr. King moved to Grinnell about 10 years ago, served for some time as receiver of the National bank in Walker, Ia., and retired from active business a few years ago. He is survived by his wife and four children.
Funeral services will be held at the home in Grinnell Saturday at 10 a.m. Services will also be held in Webster City at four o’clock Saturday afternoon, and interment will be in the Webster City cemetery.
