Frank Jontz of Baxter Dies at Age of 53 Years
BAXTER – Frank Jontz, 53, life-long resident of the Baxter community, died Saturday morning following a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Congregational church Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. and interment will be in the Restland cemetery.
Frank Jontz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jontz, was born Jan. 4, 1884, on a farm east of Baxter, and spent most of his life in and near Baxter.
Surviving are five sons, Vernon of Bluefield, W. Va., Virgil of east of Baxter, Eugene in New Mexico, Jay of Kenosha, Wis., and Orville of Quantico, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Carsen of Gilman, and one grandchild.

Frank Edward Jontz, son of Robert and Rachel (Crafford) Jontz, was born near Baxter, Jan. 4, 1884, and died at Newton, Iowa, June 26, 1937, at the age of 53 years, 5 months and 22 days.
He was married to Lula Richmond, Feb. 15, 1905. To this union five sons were born: Vernon, of Bluefield, W. Va., Virgil of near Baxter, Eugene of New Mexico, Jay of Kenosha, Wis., and Ordell of Quantico, Va.
He spent his entire life on the family homestead, except two years when he farmed near Boone, Ia.
His health commenced to fail him about four years ago.
Surviving beside the five sons are one granddaughter, Doris Geane Jontz, one sister, Mrs. Rebecca Carsens of Gilman, a niece, Mrs. Omar Medhus of Gilman, two nephews, Earl Ludlow of Marshalltown, and Maurice Ludlow of Gilman, and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services were conducted from the Community Congregational church by the Rev. B. J. Rhodes of Marshalltown, Ia., on Tuesday afternoon, June 29. Music was furnished by Roy Hefti, who sang “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,” and “In the Garden,” with Mrs. R. O. Geise as pianist. Mrs. J. W. Boyd and Mrs. W. W. Miller were in charge of the flowers.
Burial was at Restland cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Phil Hill, Will Moore, Freddie Meyer, Will Meyer, Earnest Bwol, and Don Hatch.
