COLFAX – Albert William James, 79, died at 1 p.m. Nov. 1 at University hospital at Iowa City where he had been a patient since Sept. 18.
Mr. James was born at Oakland, Ill., Dec. 17, 1857 and at the time of his death was 79 years 10 months and 14 days of age.
In 1883 he came to Iowa and located at Oswalt to work at the mines. He had lived here since with the exception of a few months with his brother in California.
He was a stationary engineer and served in this capacity at Victoria in Colfax and at Churchill hotel in Newton.
In 1883 he was united in marriage to Laura Guthrie and to this union six children were born. One son is deceased.
Those surviving are Mrs. Ben Wintersteen of Colfax, Mrs. Paul Elliott of Prairie City, Jessie James and Ray James of Newton and Bert James of Washington.
Besides the children, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Rose O’Riley of Chicago, and a brother, Douglas James, of Long Beach, Calif., twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A brother, John James of Chicago died last Tuesday.
He was a member of the Baptist church.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, Nov. 4, at 2 o’clock at the Cutter-Hartnett funeral home with Rev. C. J. Bukontz, pastor of the Baptist church, in charge.
