Mrs. Hindman, 57, Dies Early Today
Funeral Services for Former Newton Woman to be Held Here Sunday
Mrs. Robert Hindman, 57, died today at 2:45 a.m. at the Skiff Memorial hospital following a year’s illness from a malignant disease.
Mrs. Hindman was brought here from her home in Salem, Ore., about four months ago and had been cared for at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carol Dunn, 312 South Sixth Avenue West. She was taken to the hospital a few days ago.
Funeral Services
Although funeral arrangements have not been completed, the services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. from the First Christian church.
As Nellie Jarnigan, Mrs. Hindman was born at Hillsboro, O., May 25, 1880, and came to Jasper county when a young woman.
She was united in marriage here to Roy Guthrie March 6, 1901, and two children, Mrs. Dunn and Harold Guthrie, both of Newton, survive this union.
To Salem, Ore.
Later she was married to Robert Alexander Hindman Feb. 3, 1922, and they moved to Salem, Ore., to make their home.
Mrs. Hindman was a member of the Oak Ridge Grange and the Christian church.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Mr. Hindman; two children, Mrs. Dunn and Harold Guthrie of Newton; four step-children, Wayne and Worth Hindman of Salem, Ore., and Loren and Betty Hindman of Newton, and three grandchildren, Beverly Dunn and Joan and Teddy Hindman.

Funeral Services for Salem, Ore., Woman Held at Local Church
Funeral services for Mrs. Robert Hindman, 57, were conducted from the First Christian church Sunday at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Ross Mills of Green Mountain, assisted by Rev. H. Leroy Kinser, local pastor.
Music was furnished by the Acorn quartet, composed of Henry Efnor, Harl Bassett, Otis Smith and Frank Roksma. They sang, “Lord I’m Coming Home,” “In the Garden,” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”
Interment was made in the Newton Union cemetery, with the following serving as pall bearers: W. O. Hesson, Glen Hesson, Sam Hughes, James Trusler, Robert Breckenridge and Fred Jess.
The flowers were arranged by Mrs. W. O. Hesson and Mrs. Sam Hughes.
Mrs. Hindman died Friday morning at the Skiff Memorial hospital, following a lingering illness.
A former Jasper county resident, she was brought here from her home in Salem, Ore., about four months ago and had been cared for in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carol Dunn, in Newton.
Surviving relatives include her husband; two children, Mrs. Dunn and Harold Guthrie of Newton; four step-children and three grandchildren.
