Heart Attack is Fatal Today to W. W. Hertzog, 65
Over-exertion From Shoveling Snow Believed to Have Caused Attack
Dies Late This Morning Few Minutes After Attack; No Funeral Arrangements
W. W. Hertzog, 65, 410 West Third Street South, died unexpectedly this morning from a heart attack, believed to have been caused by over-exertion from shoveling snow from the sidewalk at his home.
Although he had been in frail health for some time, he was feeling about as usual this morning and spent a short time out-of-doors shoveling a part of the walk. The attack occurred as he sat in the kitchen of the home, after he had returned indoors and tended the fire in the basement.
He was stricken at 11:45 a.m. and died a few minutes later before a physician could reach him.
Mr. Hertzog had been a resident of Newton for 27 years and had been employed in the Maytag company office until a few months ago when he retired because of poor health.
He was a member of the Baptist church of Monroe.
Surviving relatives include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. E. C. McElroy of near Newton and Mrs. Harold Loupee of Newton; two grandchildren, and two brothers, Harry Hertzog of Mason City, and Frank Hertzog of Omaha, Neb.
No funeral arrangements have been made.

Plan Hertzog Rites For Sunday Afternoon
Funeral rites for W. W. Hertzog, 65, who died of a heart attack Friday, will be conducted from the Morgan Funeral Home Sunday at 2:45 p.m. by the Rev. L. R. Bobbitt of the First Baptist church. Burial will be in the Monroe cemetery.
Members of the Woman’s society of the Baptist church will attend the rites in a body, assembling at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m.

Conduct Services For W. W. Hertzog
Funeral Rites Held in Newton Sunday Afternoon; Burial at Monroe
Funeral services for William W. Hertzog were conducted from the Morgan Funeral Home Sunday at 2:45 p.m. with the Rev. L. R. Bobbitt of the First Baptist church officiating. Interment was in the Monroe cemetery.
Vernon Bobbitt and Mary Lou Robbins sang two duet numbers, “Jesus Lover of My Soul” and “Abide With Me”, accompanied by Mary Louise Kennedy.
Pallbearers were Frank Byers, Roy Owens, Fay Hawley, George L. Miller, Ben Brom and Maurice Joy. Mrs. Maude Owens and Mrs. Glenn Robbins were in charge of the flowers.
An aunt, Mrs. Walter Hazard of Monroe, was the only out-of-town relative able to come for the rites.
Mr. Hertzog died unexpectedly Friday noon of a heart attack, which was believed to be due to over-exertion caused by shoveling snow from a walk.
