Hold Rites For S. Haunsperger
Services for Kellogg Factory Worker held in Alton, Ill.
KELLOGG – Funeral services for Simon Haunsperger, 51, head die maker of the Midwest Stamping company of Kellogg, were held at Alton, Ill., his former home, Wednesday morning, Aug. 18.
Mr. Haunsperger died early Sunday morning, Aug. 15, at St. Francis hospital in Grinnell following an operation for perforated ulcer and hernia complications.
Haunsperger was taken suddenly ill Thursday noon, Aug. 12, as he was leaving his home to go back to work. He toppled over on the steps unconscious. He was taken to Grinnell at once, where an emergency operation was performed.
Injured Recently
He had undergone an operation for hernia about a year ago. Some weeks ago he was beaten about the head and stomach in a clash between picketing employees of the New Monarch company of Des Moines and Midwest Stamping company employees.
Mr. Haunsperger was elected president of the Independent Metal Workers union of Kellogg, organized recently.
He was a member of the Catholic church.
Born in Austria
Born in Steinmark, Austria, Nov. 27, 1884, he came to the United States when about 16 years of age. He had been employed in the Western Cartridge company at Alton, Ill., for a number of years before coming to Kellogg six years ago.
He was preceded in death by his wife 12 years ago.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Anne, Pauline and Josephine, five sons, John, Simon III, Albert, Jerome and Joe, and one grandchild, all of Kellogg; his father, Simon Haunsperger, and a sister, Mrs. Anne Hoffe of Alton, Ill.
A. C. Holmdahl and W. W. Zaugg of the Midwest company went to Alton Wednesday for the funeral service.
