Conduct Graffis Rites Thursday
Funeral Services Held at Christian Church in Galesburg
Funeral services for Allen Graffis, 75, of Galesburg were conducted from the Christian church in Galesburg Thursday at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. J. B. Pritchard of Melcher.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Florence Oswalt and Mrs. Eldred Schnug, who sang, “The Old Rugged Cross,” “Some Time We’ll Understand” and “Abide With Me.” Mrs. Ira DePenning was the accompanist.
Interment was in the Hewitt cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites conducted by the Galesburg lodge, assisted by C. E. Stewart of Newton.
Pall bearers were Charles Perry, Charles Earp, Ralph Laird, Ed Dunnick, Clarence Wheatcraft, and Bert Berry. Mrs. Arthur Dearinger and Blanche Butin were in charge of the flowers.
Mr. Graffis died Tuesday morning at his home after a week’s illness.
Allen Graffis, son of Nicholas and Harriet Johnson Graffis, was born April 27, 1862, on a farm near Galesburg. He lived in that vicinity all of his life, with the exception of a few years spent in Nebraska.
In 1889, he was united in marriage to Tillie Winters, who preceded him in death Sept. 1, 1915. To this union four children were born, all of whom survive.
Mr. Graffis was an active member in the Masonic lodge at Galesburg.
Surviving relatives include three daughters, Mrs. Harriet Carpenter of Galesburg, Mrs. Arile DePenning of Newton, and Ethel, at home; a son, Alva Graffis of Reasnor, and four grandsons.
