Aged Former Kellogg Man Dies At Ames
KELLOGG, Ia. – W. J. Gilreath, 76-year-old former Kellogg resident, died at his home in Ames Monday morning 10 days after suffering a paralytic stroke.
Funeral services were held in Ames Wednesday and burial was in the Antle cemetery west of Kellogg.
J. M. Gilreath of Kellogg is one of the several sons and daughters surviving.

KELLOGG – Funeral services for James W. Gilreath, former resident, were held at the family home in Ames Wednesday morning, Dec. 15 at 10:00 o’clock with the Rev. Jack Finegan, pastor of the Church of Christ in charge of the rites. Music included two vocal solos, “Abide With Me,” and “Does Jesus Care,” and six grandsons served as pallbearers.
Graveside rites were conducted at the Antle cemetery west of Kellogg at 1:15 p.m. with Rev. Finegan in charge and burial was made in the family lot there.
James W. Gilreath was born in Jamestown, Tenn., Jan. 4, 1861. He was united in marriage to Miss Cordelia Huddleston Jan. 5, 1882 at Jamestown and they made their home there until coming to Iowa in 1903. They resided in Kellogg for two years, then went to South Dakota, where they remained until 1911, when they returned to Iowa and located on a farm north of Nevada. There they lived for eight years then moved to a farm north of Ames. Ten years ago they went to Ames to make their home and it was here that Mr. Gilreath died following a paralytic stroke which he suffered ten days previous.
Surviving relatives include his widow, Mrs. Cordelia Gilreath; seven sons, W. B. and W. C. at Ames; O. C. at Winnebago, Minn.; J. M. of Kellogg; L. F. at Long Beach, Calif.; C. E. at Boone; M. G. at Nevada; two daughters, Mrs. Eula King at Kansas City, Mo.; and Mrs. Ina Huhn at Nevada, and 21 grandchildren.
