Hip Fracture Fatal to Woman
Mrs. G. C. Fennema, 65, 521 East Ninth Street South, died Wednesday at 11:00 p.m. at the Skiff Memorial hospital. Her death resulted from a hip fracture, suffered in a fall at her home two weeks ago.
Mrs. Fennema’s daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Engle of Fairmont, Minn., arrived in Newton Tuesday to be at the bedside of her mother. Mrs. Engle was accompanied by a daughter, Marjorie.
Funeral Rites
Funeral services will be conducted from the Morgan funeral home Friday at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. Daniel E. Buser of the Foursquare Gospel church. Interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery.
Mrs. Fennema was born at Otley, in Marion county, March 15, 1873, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Colyn.
She grew to womanhood in that community and was married there Feb. 13, 1895, to Mr. Fennema.
To Newton in 1913
They made their home in Otley until coming to Newton in 1913. They had lived in the present home on East Ninth Street South for the last twenty years.
Mrs. Fennema was preceded in death by a son, Elmer, who died in 1924, and by a daughter, Paulina, who died in 1936, following a long illness of leukemia, a rare blood disease.
Mrs. Fennema’s church affiliation was the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors
Surviving relatives are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Engle of Fairmont, Minn., and Mrs. Vern Guthrie of Newton; two grandsons, Harold Engle and Jerry Guthrie, and two granddaughters, Lucille and Marjorie Engle.
Also surviving are three brothers, A. T. Colyn of Prairie City, Albert Colyn of Pella and Isaac Colyn of Russell, and three sisters, Mrs. John Denburger of Oskaloosa, Mrs. John DeYoung of Newton and Mrs. William Ver Duft of Pella.

Hold Rites for Mrs. Fennema
Funeral Services Held for Woman Who Suffered Hip Fracture
Funeral services for Mrs. G. C. Fennema, 65, were conducted from the Morgan funeral home Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. Daniel E. Buser of the Foursquare Gospel church.
Music for the rites included solos “In The Sweet Bye and Bye” and Safe in the Arms of Jesus,” by Mrs. Buser and a duet, “We Are Going Down the Valley,” by Mrs. Buser and Mrs. Mabel Maixner. Mrs.Sidney Land was the accompanist.
Interment was in the Newton Union cemetery, with the following serving as pall bearers: Roy Robbins, Grant Williams, Ivy Underwood, Rex Dinsmore, J. S. Booton and Clarance Snyder.
The flowers were arranged by Mrs. J. T. Olsen, Mrs. Grant Williams and Mrs. Ivy Underwood.
Members of the Birthday club and Mrs. Fennema’s Sunday school class and also the girl employees of the Advertising Novelty company attended the rites in separate groups.
Mrs. Fennema died Wednesday night at the Skiff hospital as the result of a hip fracture, suffered two weeks ago.
Surviving relatives include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd Engle of Fairmount, Minn., and Mrs. Vern Guthrie of Newton; four grandchildren, Harold, Lucille and Marjorie Engle and Jerry Guthrie, and three sisters and three brothers.
