Daniel R. Evans Dies at 60 Years
Daniel Robert Evans died this morning at the Skiff Memorial hospital at the age of 60 years, 4 months and 14 days. He was stricken with pneumonia on Thursday, Jan. 28, and was taken at once to the hospital, where it was, at first, thought that he would recover, but he grew rapidly worse and it was soon seen that he could not survive the inroads of the disease.
Daniel Robert Evans was born at Williamsburg, Ia., Sept. 19, 1874. He was the son of John Daniel and Rebecca Evans, who had come to this country from Wales. Daniel lived all his life until manhood at Williamsburg, and attended the public schools there. He has two brothers, Richard T. and John J. and one sister, Mrs. M. J. Perry, all living at Newton.
Studied for Ministry
Mr. Evans’ parents both were wonderfully outstanding Christian people and they had taken great pains to implant the truths of the scriptures in the minds of their children. Daniel had an ambition to become a minister of the gospel and he attended Coe College, at Cedar Rapids, and the Moody Bible Institute, at Chicago, to fit himself for that service, but later circumstances seemed to make that impossible, but he always regretted the outcome.
On Oct. 6, 1910, Mr. Evans was married to Alice Cecelia Nelson, of Racine, Wis. They were the parents of two girls, Alice Marjorie, now attending Coe College, and Miriam Elizabeth, still living with her father. The wife died Nov. 22, 1926.
Factory Employee
Mr. Evans came to Newton March 22, 1925, and since then had been employed most of the time at the Maytag factory, but ill health had prevented his working part of the time.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Presbyterian church, by the pastor, Dr. Harry J. Findlay.
The body will afterwards be taken to Racine, Wis., for burial in the family lot, beside his wife.
