Fred Eilert, 49, of Laurel Dies
Jasper County Farmer Dies in Marshalltown Hospital Friday
MALAKA – Fred Eilert, 49, farmer of 11 miles north of Newton, died Friday afternoon at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown as the result of an illness of plural pneumonia.
Mr. Eilert submitted to an operation for ulcers at the hospital Oct. 27, and later pneumonia developed, resulting in his death.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. from the home, followed by final rites at 2:00 o’clock at St. John’s Evangelical church. Rev. John J. Ruhl, pastor of the church, will be in charge. Interment will be in St. John’s cemetery.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs. Minnie Rethmeier Eilert; two daughters, Ruby and Ruth, both at home; two brothers, Will and Herman Eilert of Laurel, and three sisters, Mrs. Henry Ebert, Mrs. Ray Simpson and Mrs. Walter Koppin, all of Newton.

MALAKA – Funeral services for Fred Eilert, 49, prominent farmer of this vicinity, were conducted from the St. John’s Evangelical church Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 16, by Rev. John G. Ruhl, pastor of the church.
Lou Toedt and Mrs. Claude Mann sang “I Need Thee Every Hour,” and “Jesus Lover of My Soul,” accompanied by Mrs. Howard Ash.
Interment was in the cemetery near the church, with the following serving as pallbearers: Will Dammon, Carl Bowers, Elmer Achtemeier, Lou Tinnermeier, Herman Liebale and Harry Brandt.
Flowers were arranged by Mrs. Herman Liebale, Mrs. Lou Tinnermeier, Mrs. Harry Townsend, Mrs. J. H. Boyd and Sadie Wehrman.
Mr. Eilert died Nov. 12, at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown.
He was born in Brockensen, Brauschwieg, Germany, Aug. 16, 1888. He came to this country with his parents when he was about 3 ˝ years old, arriving here in Iowa on a farm near Laurel, April 10, 1892.
He, as one of a class of six, was confirmed in the St. Johns Evangelical church April 16, 1905. Mr. Eilert was a member of this church and was also a deacon of the church at the time of his death.
On March 12, 1913, he was married to Minnie Rethmeier, and to this union twin daughters were born, Ruth and Ruby, both at home.
With the exception of his first childhood years, he had spent his entire lifetime in Jasper county, farming for almost 25 years on the present farm.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, one brother, Harry, and one sister, Emma.
Surviving relatives are his wife and two daughters, Ruth and Ruby, at home; two brothers, Herman of Laurel and Will of Newton; and three sisters: Mrs. Henry Ebert, Mrs. Walter Koppin, and Mrs. Raymond Stinson, all of Newton.
