Former Baxter Woman Dies in Chicago Hospital
BAXTER – Mrs. Alvin Dickison, 35, of Chicago died Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. in a Chicago hospital, following a short illness.
The body arrived at Baxter Thursday, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Boyd funeral home.
Mrs. Dickison, the former Leona Downs, was born at Baxter and was graduated from the Baxter schools.
Surviving relatives include her husband of Chicago; her mother, Mrs. H. S. Downs of Baxter, and a sister, Mrs. George Geise of Baxter.

Jessie LeOna Downs, daughter of Mrs. Carrie L. Downs and the late Horace Downs, was born at Baxter, Iowa, Feb. 24, 1901.
After graduating from the Baxter High school, she attended Frances Shimer College for one year. The following year she entered Drake University, from which she was graduated in 1922.
On Aug. 3, 1935, she was united in marriage to Alvin B. Dickison of Des Moines, formerly of Sauk Center, Minn., later moving to Chicago, Ill., where she resided at the time of death.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin B. Dickison; her mother, Mrs. Carrie L. Downs; one sister, Mrs. George R. Geise, her maternal grandmother, Mrs. J. S. Booth, of Marshalltown, and one aunt, Mrs. F. L. Lane, of Bigelow, Minn.
She died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 27 after a brief illness.
In her early girlhood she became a member of the Congregational church of Baxter, Iowa, and later a member of the Eastern Star at Cambridge, Iowa.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon, Jan. 30 from the Boyd funeral home in Baxter, by the Rev. B. W. Northrop, pastor of the Community Congregational church. Burial was made in Ashton cemetery.
Music for the services was furnished by Mrs. C. F. Weeks, Mrs. A. J. Dodd, G. T. Hardenburg and Dwight Hunt, who sang “Does Jesus Care” and “The End of the Road.” Mrs. E. J. Goodwin played the accompaniment. Pallbearers were Donnell Deutsch, A. G. Seyforth, Horace Rederus, James Robertson, A. J. Dodd, and Wayne Miller.
