John J. Bauer Dies In Peoria
John J. Bauer, former Newton resident, died last night at Peoria, Ill., according to word received in Newton.
The body is being brought to Newton and will arrive at the Toland funeral home this afternoon.
Mr. Bauer lived in Newton for a number of years before moving to Peoria about a year ago.
Several children survive, including Mrs. Verle Lawrence and Delbert Bauer of Newton.

Conduct Rites For J. J. Bauer
Services For East Peoria, Ill., Man held at Sacred Heart Church
Funeral services for John J. Bauer, 55, of East Peoria, Ill., former Newton resident, were conducted from the Sacred Heart church in Newton today at 10:00 a.m. by the Rev. Father T. J. McCann.
Music was provided by Frances Magyar, Ruth Magyar and Cathryn Phillips, with Hortense Wells presiding at the organ. Vocal selections were “Lord of Mercy and Compassion,” “Mother Dear, Oh Pray for Me,” and “Lead Kindly Light.”
Pallbearers
Interment was in the Catholic cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers: Lee Schoenie, Richard Niebur, William Korth, John Galuska, J. P. O’Roake and Eugene Dwyer.
Those attending from out-of-town were Valentine Bauer, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Bauer, Edna Bauer, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gass, Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Gass and Eddie Joe. Floyd Gass, Herbert Gass, Louis Geheinger, Mark Metz, Frank Dittmer, Margaret Dittmer, Mr. and Mrs. August Dittmer, all of Lacona and vicinity;
Also, Leon Woodyard, Mrs. Julia Cleveland and Gerald, Charles Wallace, Glenn Lee Ripperger, Mrs. Tony Schaefer and Marie, Mrs. John Seuferer, Mrs. Luke Schneider, Mrs. Steve Metz and Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Hoch and Virgil, all of Lacona and vicinity, and Cora Offenburger of Des Moines.
Died in Peoria
Mr. Bauer died Friday about midnight at East Peoria, Ill., following a week’s illness. Death was attributed to a hemorrhage of the stomach.
Mr. Bauer was born at Lacona, Ia., March 27, 1881, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bauer. He was one of a family of 13 children, four of whom are living.
Marriage
He was united in marriage to Emma Schneider at Bauer, Ia., in 1905, and they spent most of the early years of their married life in Lacona.
They came to Newton in 1936, where Mr. Bauer was employed part of the time at the Maytag factory. They moved to East Peoria, Ill., a year ago.
Surviving relatives include his wife; eight children, Mrs. Al Metz, Mrs. Eugene Ripperger, Delbert Bauer, Mrs. Edgar Schermerhorn, Mrs. Verle Lawrence and Mrs. Ethbert Crook, all of Newton, and Mervin and Guy Bauer of East Peoria, Ill.; two brothers, Valentine Bauer of Lacona, Ia., and Joe Bauer of Artesian, S.D., and two sisters, Mrs. Ed Gass of Melcher and Mrs. Marian McNair of Chicago.
