What earthly sympathy can compass the sorrow that almost overwhelmed the home of Mr. J. J. Draper when the wife and mother, after a lingering illness of several months answered the call of Him who gave her life and at 10 o’clock Saturday, March 13, 1897, her spirit took its everlasting flight to the realm of a new life beyond?
Who of us can help taking home this terrible bereavement and involuntarily asking our inmost souls, What if it was my mother?
Rebecca Keating was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, May 3, 1848, being 48 years, 10 months and 10 days of age at the time of her death. She leaves a husband, four sons and two daughters to mourn their loss, all of whom are at home except one son, Edgar of Prairie City, and one daughter, Mrs. D. B. English. The funeral services were from the house, conducted by Mr. Miller. He pointed them to the One who can wipe away all tears and comfort us in any sorrow.
Dear bereaved one, remember though you must
remain for a while without her that
When the sunset gates unbar,
Shall I not see thee waiting stand
And white against the evening sky.The Newton (Iowa) Record 19 Mar 1897
