BAXTER -- Melvin "Casey" Cleverley, 75, formerly of Baxter, died at his residence in Indianola Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Baxter Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Rollin Watters officiating. Burial will follow services at the Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Boyd-Davis Funeral Home, where his family will be present to greet friends. Memorial contributions may be directed in his name to the Hospice of Jasper County or the Taylor House of Des Moines.

He was born Aug. 2, 1929, in Eldora to Charles E. and Grace B. (Barbee) Cleverley. A short time after his birth Casey's family moved to Baxter. He was raised and educated in Baxter, where he attended the Baxter schools. He was an employee of the Maytag Company, where he worked in both the machinery and the salvage departments. He retired in 1993 after 46 years of service to Maytag. He enjoyed traveling, family fishing trips, auctioneering, playing cards and shooting pool, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Lorena of Indianola; a son and daughter-in-law, Danny Laverne and Debbie Cleverley of Corydon; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Byron Kern of Norwalk; two sisters, Amy Parsons of Newton and Betty Wright of Baxter; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Dolores Cleverley of Newton; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother in infancy and his daughter Judy.
