Obituary for Bruce Hannah
Bruce Hannah, age 58 of Grinnell, died on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at his home with his family by his side and under the care of Grinnell Regional Hospice.A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 10th at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A reception will follow the service at the Eagles in Grinnell. Interment will be at Rock Creek Cemetery west of Grinnell.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Memorials may be designated to the Bruce Hannah Memorial Fund, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family online at www.smithfh.com.
Bruce Andrew Hannah was born on December 10, 1960 in Hampton, Iowa to Richard Eldon Hannah and LaDonna Lee (Harkema) Hannah. He was raised in Hansell, Iowa until the family moved to Kellogg, Iowa in 1973. Bruce graduated from Newton High School with the class of 1979.
On August 17, 1984, Bruce was united in marriage to Shelly Burham at his parent’s home at Rock Creek Lake near Kellogg, Iowa. The couple lived in Kellogg and Grinnell all of their married lives. Bruce worked in construction most of his life and had also worked at Manatts, Nagel Farms, Bisom Trucking, Z-Line, and IBEW.
Bruce was a family man and a friend to many. His enjoyments were going on motorcycle rides, working in his shop, and being with his friends and family. He will be remembered as being spontaneous, fun-loving, a hard worker, stubborn, and someone who was incredibly strong in his fight with cancer.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 34 years, Shelly Hannah of Grinnell; his children, Kendra Cupples of Newton, Kari Hannah of Grinnell, Jacob (Zen) Hannah of Grinnell, and Jamie (Jake) Dunsbergen of Grinnell; 5 grandchildren; and his sister, Lynne (Greig) Shine of Kellogg.
