McCuen, Edwin Russell 1930-2019

Edwin Russell McCuen, the son of Glenn and Edith (Davis) McCuen, was born Jan. 24, 1930, on a farm north of Audubon. He graduated from the Audubon Senior High School with the class of 1948. He went on to attend the University of Iowa, graduating in 1952.

On Feb. 4, 1951, Ed was united in marriage with Gloria Lee Lathrop in Iowa City. Ed enjoyed his many opportunities in the farm machinery business. He became the national sales manager of several agricultural manufacturing companies. In 1970, he started an independent farm machinery representative company. He continued in the business until he was 82. Ed had a long interest in woodworking and making fine furniture for his family and friends. He also enjoyed puttering around his acreage and watching the crops grow across the road.

Ed passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, at Newton Village in Newton. He was 88 years old. Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria, April 15, 2009.

Those left to honor Ed’s memory include his son, Paul (Sarah) of Newton; his daughter, Anne Southern of Ankeny; his son, John (Laurie) of Ankeny; his eight grandchildren; and his nine great-grandchildren.

No public services are planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Newton and may be left at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home.
