MONTEZUMA -- Louise Tindle, 87, of Montezuma, formerly of Newton, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at the Montezuma Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma with the Rev. George Salnave, pastor of the Montezuma Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Jackson Township Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for the Montezuma Fire Department.

The daughter of Ershel Smothers and Krillia Virginia Dryden Smothers, she was born Nov. 21, 1916, in Montezuma. She was a graduate of Montezuma High School. On Oct. 9, 1940, she married Adonis "Don" Tindle in Oskaloosa. They farmed near Montezuma.

Mrs. Tindle was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Ewart, UPW, Countryside Star Club and Farm Bureau. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, her chickens, gardening, driving and shopping and visiting on the phone. She lived for a time with her daughter in Newton.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and John Vander Schel of Newton; a daughter-in-law, Carole Tindle of Montezuma; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Wayne; a twin brother, Louis Smothers; a sister, Wilma Marie; and a granddaughter.
