COLFAX -- Walter Lee Williams, 69, of Colfax, died Nov. 8, 2004, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Colfax with the Rev. Phil Butler and the Rev. Dan DuRocher officiating. Burial will follow at McKeever Cemetery in Colfax.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 until 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Colfax, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Colfax.

The son of Anna Genora Norem and Gomer Williams, he was born June 12, 1935. He graduated from Colfax High School in 1953. On Feb. 27, 1954, he married VondaLee Warrick in Colfax. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, sang, was a Sunday school teacher, a deacon, a chairman of the building committee and a youth leader. He also was an active 4-H leader and a member of the Jasper County Fair Board. He enjoyed his horses, playing his guitar and singing.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Vana and Monty Beals; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and B.J. Williams and Karl and Kristy Williams; nine grandchildren; his mother; and one sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Jay Hoogenakker.

He was preceded in death by his father. ~ Newton Daily News, Tuesday, November 9, 2004
