Earl Warren Schomer, 78, of Newton died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, at his home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. David Smiley, pastor of First Baptist Church in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of John "Jack" Schomer and Edna Moore, he was born Aug. 31, 1926, in Marshalltown. He became a resident of Newton in 1946. On Aug. 19, 1948, he married Ivalou B. Ellenwood in Newton. He worked in the factory at the Maytag Company for 30 years and retired in 1978. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Dan L. and Dixie Schomer of Ankeny; a daughter and son-in-law, Tricia and Dennis Evans of Newton; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Arleen Cushatt of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two step-fathers, Everett Algyre and Elmer Lindblom; and a brother, Don Schomer.
