Paul Douglas Probasco, 47, of 1209 W. 16th St. S. died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at Iowa Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf of Newton First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service. Visitation with the family will be held from noon until 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in his name.

The son of Kenneth O. and Mabel A. (Bowling) Probasco, he was born Jan. 12, 1957, in Newton. He was a high school graduate, lived in Knoxville for a short time and lived in Newton most of his life. He was a machinist for Vermeer Industries in Pella, was a member of the Methodist faith and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Kendra Probasco of Newton and Patricia and Larry Penn of Adel [sic-relatives say that Patricia and Larry are not related and that she is not the daughter of Paul]; his mother of Newton; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Gary Osborn of Newton; and two brothers, Gene of Phoenix, Ariz., and Steve of Ankeny.

He was preceded in death by his father.
