Nancy Ruth Madsen, 56, of Newton died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

A memorial service was held today at 11 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville with the Rev. Vernon Fasse officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.

Memorials in her name may be given to Hospice of Newton or the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton.

The daughter of Grace May Kingery and Charles Maurice Carter, she was born Jan. 15, 1948, in Knoxville. She grew up and attended school in Knoxville and graduated in 1966. On Jan. 25, 1969, she married Keith Watertor. She later married Wesley Juel Madsen on Oct. 29, 1982. She worked for many years at the VA Hospital in Knoxville. In later years, she was the administrative assistant to the warden at the Newton Correctional Facility. She sang in church choirs and was active in the Newton Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She did various crafts, especially holiday decorations. Sewing was a major pass time. She made clothes, did counted cross-stitch and some quilting. During the summer months she enjoyed tending her vegetable garden.

Survivors include her husband Wesley of Newton; four daughters, Angela Jo Watertor of Indianola, Julie Lynn Watertor of Des Moines, Dana Lee and her husband, Rick Baumgarten, of Lee's Summitt, Mo., and Deborah Marie Madsen of Raytown, Mo.; two sons, Wesley Jay and his wife, Kara Madsen, of Kansas City, Mo., and Wade Alan and his wife, Kari Madsen, of Barrington, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Lila Carter of Knoxville.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gloyd and Lloyd Carter.
