COLFAX -- Sherri (Oswalt) Lewis, 45 of rural Colfax, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, of an apparent heart attack near her home.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial was at McKeever Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League.

The daughter of Thomas Mac and Doris (Maddison) Oswalt, she was born Sept. 1, 1959, in Des Moines. On Feb. 14, 1987, she married Kenneth Lewis at Thomas Mitchell Park in Mitchellville. She worked at the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society. She was devoted to animals and spent many hours with orphaned animals. She was also very active in promoting fundraisers that helped supply medicine for animals.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, David Davidson of Naples, Fla., and Tanner Lewis of Colfax; her father and his friend, Thomas Oswalt and Darlene of Colfax; her mother and her husband, Doris and Joe Emerson of Colfax; a brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Linda Oswalt of Colfax; a sister and brother-in-law, Kristina and Andy Smith of Colfax; two step-brothers, Michael and John Emerson of Knoxville; her mother and father-in-law, Charles and Eleanor Lewis; three brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edward "Mid" and Florence Oswalt and Andrew and Edith Maddison and a step-brother, Steve Emerson.
