Ruth A. Hammer, 75, of Newton, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at the Skiff Medical Center Monarch Wing.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 13, 2004 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, with the Rev. David Rex officiating. Interment will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m., tonight at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Will and Christina (Nelson) Klootwyk, she was born Aug. 30, 1929 in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1950, and she married Carroll I. Hammer on Aug. 19, 1952, in Newton. She was a homemaker and housekeeper for the Jasper County Care Facility and Heritage Manor Care Center. She was a lifelong resident of Jasper County, living in the Newburg, Kellogg and Newton areas.

Survivors include her husband, Carroll of Newton; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Linda Hammer of Des Moines, Iowa; her 3 daughters, Denise Catlett, Lori Richtsmeier, and Becky McNeer, all of Newton; 4 grandchildren; her 2 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; her brother and sister-in-law, Max and Gretchen Klootwyk of Cottonwood, Arizona; brother-in-law, Bob Walker of Des Moines; and her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, 2 brothers, and a sister.
