BAXTER -- Charles Everrett "Butch" Johnson, 65, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton after a long battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Zoar Church in rural Newton with the Rev. Jim Olson officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Baxter. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be held at Zoar Church today from 2 until 8 p.m. The family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the John Stoddard Cancer Center, Hospice of Jasper County or to Zoar Church.

The son of John Johnson Sr. and Lucelle (Perry) DuRocher, he was born June 7, 1939. He attended schools in Des Moines and Colfax. In 1958, he married Sandra Cowden. He worked as a plumber's assistant, a flower delivery person, a security guard and an employee of Wien Airlines in Alaska. He returned to Iowa in 1974. He married Barbara Klauenberg Brandt in 1974. They lived in Baxter. He worked for Maytag for almost 25 years and retired in 2000. He was a member of the Zoar Church and enjoyed the church activities he participated in.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; four daughters, Debbie, Lori, Brenda and Mary; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Steve and Cheri Brandt; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and David Brandt and Julie and Mark Swalwell; two brothers, John Johnson and Earl DuRocher; two sisters-in-law, Joann Johnson and Sue DuRocher; one sister, Betty McCuen; 22 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a twin sister in infancy; his first wife; one step-daughter, Barbie; and a brother-in-law, Kenny McCuen.
