Murray L. "Buck" Bowen, 77, of 901 N. Eighth Ave. E. died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at USA Healthcare in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Murray Bowen Sr. and Helen Vivian Brumme-Nelson, he was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Omaha, Neb. Harvey Nelson was his stepfather. On Dec. 13, 1954, he married Betty Louise Illingworth in Newton. He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II and was a member of the VFW in Newton. He worked for Iowa Department of Transportation for 27 years and also worked for Bisom Trucking. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and NASCAR racing. He was a resident of Newton for 70 years.

Survivors include his wife; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Rusty and Lisa Bowen and Rory Bowen, all of Newton, and Rob and Deb Bowen of Dallas Center; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Imogene Dimon of Kansas City, Mo.; and a step-brother, Wilfred Nelson of Connecticut.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two step-brothers, Harold and LeRoy Nelson.
