Margaret Joyce Boles, 81, of Newton died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

In honoring her requests, the family has had her body cremated and no services are scheduled.

Memorials will be accepted to the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Leonard and Miriam R. (Stead) Walkington, she was born June 30, 1923, in South Bank Yorkshire, England. She graduated from high school and junior college in Middlesbrough, England. She moved to Newton in 1945. On March 3, 1945, she married Kenneth W. Boles in Guisborough, England.

Mrs. Boles worked as a secretary for the Maytag Company for more than 30 years. She retired in 1984. She was active in politics and served in the English Royal Air Force during World War II. She enjoyed reading, doing cross word puzzles and playing bridge. She was member of several bridge groups. She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and the League of Women Voters.

Survivors include a son, Col. Kenneth L. Boles, USMC, and his wife, Kim of Slidell, La.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa M. and Frank Hilliard of Huntsville, Ala., and Victoria B. and Greg Brablander of Eaton, Colo.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Baulkje Walkington of England; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jean and Kevin McKeown and Dorothy Retchless, all of England; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.
