Lyle L. Blum, 84, of 3870 N. Fourth Ave. E. died Sunday, Nov. 7, at Careage of Newton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name.

The son of Howard and Una Mae (Thomas) Blum, he was born July 5, 1920, in Ralston. He attended Laurel schools. On Oct. 20, 1943, he married Sara McKibben in Cillicothe, Mo. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He owned and operated Blum Garage in Kellogg and was a transportation manager for Newton School Bus Barn. He also worked at Hy-Vee Food Store and Farver's True Value in Newton. He married Mildred (Franklin) Coomer on Jan. 21, 1966, in Kellogg.

Mr. Blum was a member of Kellogg Christian Church, Newton V.F.W. Post No. 1655, Newton Masonic Lodge No. 59, A.F./A.M., and a member of Iowa Schools Transportation Association. He enjoyed the fishing, hunting, gardening and traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Joy Blum of Crystal Lake, Ill.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Bill Deagler of Tampa, Fla., Patricia McPherren of Boynton Beach, Fla., Vickie Lundberg of Newton and Mary and Joel Rich of Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Morris "Short" Blum of Haverhill; and a sister, Sally Lyle of Laurel; two step-brothers, Bobby Jay and Roger Jay, both of Marshalltown; and a step-sister, Lucille Cox of Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and a brother, Max "Jim" Blum.
