Ethel Pauline Askren, 89, of Newton died Saturday, Aug. 21, at USA Healthcare in Newton.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Mosher Funeral Home in Chariton where the Rev. Albert Sudbrock of Newton Baptist Temple officiated. Burial was at Chariton Cemetery.

Memorials will be accepted in her name.

The daughter of Albert and Minnie (Bumgardner) Noble, she was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Chariton. On Oct. 3, 1933, she married Orval A. Wright in Chariton. She later married Raymond Askren in 1963. She was a homemaker and raised nine children. She lived in Chariton for more than 66 years prior to moving to Newton 15 years ago. Mrs. Askren was a member of Newton Baptist Temple.

Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Orval Dean Wright of Chariton, Larry Dean and Judy Wright of Townsend, Mont., and Rickie Eugene Wright of Knoxville; five daughters and sons-in-law, Marion and Bob Goben of Chariton, Mildred and Jack Sudbrock of Des Moines, Dorthea and Albert Sudbrock of Newton, Minnie Lee and Roger Musick of Moore, Okla., Edwina Mae Current of Chariton, Donna Rae and Tom Spidle of Newton; 41 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; both husbands; four children; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. ~ Newton Daily News, Friday, August 27, 2004
