Peter W. "Pete" Beukema, 91, of 510 E. 8th St. S., a resident of Newton since 1950, died Monday morning, Sept. 8, at the Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Reese Chapel.

Dr. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Palo Alto Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church or the Newton Public Library may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are two sons, Byron of Rt. 3, Newton, and Wayne of Rt. 4, Newton; four daughters, Betty (Mrs. Bert) Barnes of Newton, Bonna (Mrs. Clarence) Wilson of Britt, Vera Gay (Mrs. Don) Lloyd of Phoenix, Ariz., and JoAnn (Mrs. Robert) Cooper of Memphis, Tenn; 24 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Richard, three brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Beukema, a well known livestock producer, was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Amboy Grange and the Jasper County Farm Bureau.

A former Newton realtor, he had been engaged in agriculture, farming east of Newton until moving to Newton.

The son of Dick and Ann Zylstra Beukema, he was born June 3, 1895 on a farm north of Newton.

He was married to Vera L. Dunmire June 7, 1916 in Newton. ~ Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, September 9, 1986, page 2
