================================================
Death of Mrs. John Bale

This good woman passed away last Sunday morning, at her home on the old Arthur Harvin farm, about four miles west of town, leaving her husband and seven children to mourn the loss of a splendid wife and mother. Mrs. Bale had been in poor health for a year or two, and although she would have lived for the sake of her husband, children and other loved ones, death was only a happy release from a life of suffering.

Mary Ann Donnelly was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, July 6, 1855, and died April 28, 1907, at the age of 51 years, 8 months and 22 days. Her father died when she was two years of age. She came to Jasper County, Iowa, with her mother when she was at the age of 12 years, where she has since resided.

She was married to John Bale Feb. 4, 1860, and to this union were born seven children, Lizzie K., now Mrs. W. E. Bailey of Baxter, William M., Leo P., Vera, John T., Walter Vernon and Maurice D., who were all at her bedside when she died. She also leaves to mourn her loss her mother, Mrs. E. Dowling, one half-sister, Mrs. W. A. Hotchkin and one half-brother, Mr. T. W. Dowling.

She was buried Tuesday morning from the Sacred Heart Church and laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery west of town.

Mr. Bale and family wish to thank their kind neighbors and friends for their kindness during the illness and death of their wife and mother. ~ Newspaper unknown, 1907
