Clyde Hendee Died Nov. 7
Clyde Hendee, 71, longtime resident of Colfax, died Friday night, Nov. 7, 1969. Death came suddenly from a heart attack.
The son of Charles and Minerva Mae Thompson Hendee, he was born at Flagler, Iowa. He was one of 14 children.
Early in life he moved with his parents to Seevers and then into Colfax, where he had resided since.
Mr. Hendee received his education in the Colfax Elementary School. He started working in the coal mines when a young boy and later was employed by the Maytag Company for over 27 years, retiring from there in 1962. He was a member of the Maytag 25 Year Club.
He was married to Julia R. Jones, Dec. 22, 1917, in Des Moines. She preceded him in death July 23, 1966.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, William E.; his parents and several brothers.
Surviving are two sons, Robert D. and Richard C. Hendee, both of Colfax; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Laura Mae) Annis of Colfax; two grandchildren, Mrs. Sharon Brashear of Prairie City and William E. Annis of Colfax, and one great-granddaughter, Tammy Lynn Annis of Colfax.
Also surviving are two brothers, Edward Hendee of Roseville, Calif., and Oral Hendee of Detroit, Mich.; and four sisters, Mrs. Mae Aikens, Mrs. Marie Tickle and Mrs. George Stevenson, all of Rock Island, Ill., and Mrs. Joe Laws of Colfax.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 10th at 2 p.m. In the Christian church at Colfax. The Rev. Gaylon Decious, minister of the church, officiated.
Mrs. Darrold Hunter was the soloist and Miss Eleanor Howell was the organist.
Serving on the flower committee were Mrs. John Bale Jr., Mrs. Jerry Mellor and Mrs. Richard Swanson.
The bearers were: Floyd Clippinger, James Davis, Robert Evans, Rex Rorabaugh, Richard Swanson and Morris Wilson.
Honorary bearers were: Harry Barbour, Gerald Madison, James Pratt, James Thomas, John Williams and Tom Wilson.
Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery.
