Carl Janney Died Following Stroke
Carl J. Janney, 61, of 100 Howard street, died Monday evening about 11:00 o’clock at the Skiff hospital in Newton, where he had been taken by the Emergency Unit of the Colfax Fire Department Saturday afternoon. Mr. Janney suffered a stroke prior to his hospitalization, and never regained consciousness. He was the owner of the Locker Plant in this city.
Mr. Janney was born Nov. 28, 1896 at Richland Center, Wisconsin and had been a resident of Colfax the past 37 years. He was united in marriage to Agnes Abram November 12, 1922 at Knoxville, Iowa. Mr. Janney operated a tire shop in this city for a time, later serving as a rural mail carrier before entering the Locker Plant business.
Mr. Janney was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Janney. He has been a resident of Colfax since 1921 and was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Agnes, and one brother Lee of Muscoda, Wisconsin. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Carl has a host of friends, both in Colfax and the surrounding community, made throughout his years as a businessman of this city.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 1:30 from the Presbyterian church with Rev. Frank P. Hladky, pastor, officiating.
Music will be furnished by Howard Loehr, soloist with Mrs. S. E. Tennant, organist.
Flower Committee – Mrs. Earl Plummer, Mrs. Raymond Fletcher, Mrs. DeVere Cleveland and Mrs. Joe Weresh.
Bearers are Joe Weresh, Donald Evans, Michael Orlich, H. P. Lockhart, Ernest Kienle and John Rayburn of Cedar Rapids.
Honorary bearers are Joe Pratt, R. S. Fletcher, C. G. Krebs, Earl Plummer and V. E. Miller.
The American Legion of this city will have the final military rites at the cemetery.
Burial will be in the Colfax cemetery.
